About the neck lift procedure
A necklift is performed on an outpatient basis, usually under either general anesthesia or local with sedation. The incision can be placed under the chin, behind the ears, or in both places, depending on the desired results. Also depending on the degree of work necessary, muscles may be tightened, and fat and skin removed. The remaining skin is then redraped in its new position.
What is involved in the necklift recovery period?
Protective neck and chin dressings or a neck sling are worn home after surgery. Standard pain medication can be used to control any initial discomfort. It usually takes about 2 weeks for swelling and bruising to fade, and the final result should take shape within about 1-3 months of having surgery.
What are the risks of neck lift?
Risks are minimal with neck lift surgery. Temporary numbness may occur after surgery. In rarer cases, scarring or brusing may occur. As with all plastic surgery, complications may arise from reaction to the anesthetic or infection.
