What is a breast augmentation?

Who is this for?
Breast augmentation surgery is for women who are unhappy with the size, shape or firmness of their breasts. Lack of firmness or shape irregularity may occur after pregnancy or significant weightloss. Breast augmentation may also be performed to correct the size of one breast in relation to the other.
What is involved in the breast augmentation recovery period?
Immediately after the surgery, the patient may experience discomfort, and it is reccomended that an icepack be applied to the breasts for the duration of the day. It usually takes about a week before the patient is able to go back to work. However, swelling of the breasts may continue for three to five weeks.
What are the risks?
In rare cases, tightening and hardening of scar tissue around the implant (capsular contracture), or rupture of implant may occur. Either case may require surgery to release the scar tissue or remove/replace the implant. An increase or decrease in the sensitivity of nipples or breast skin may also occur.
Do the pills really work?
Many Over-The-Counter drugs have emerged in the past few years claiming to naturally enlarge breast size without surgical implants. These drugs often marketed as "herbal breast enhancement pills" or "natural breast enlargement pills" may seem like an easy, inexpensive way to achieve a larger bust. However, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, these "breast enhancement" drugs have not only proven to be ineffective, they also may be dangerous when mixed with other drugs. Just like all herbal supplements, these drugs can be put on the market without inspection by the FDA. In fact, some studies have found these herbal breast enhancement pills to be harmful when mixed with other common medications.
